Pipovaihto - Hat exchange

Janika järjesti joku viikko sitten blogissaan pipovaihdon johon itsekin osallistuin. Ideana oli tehdä jollekin pipo ja itse sitten sai joltain toiselta pipon. 

Itse tein tällaisen pipon (tai lakin) Marille. Päällinen on takkivillaa josta 80% on lampaanvillaa ja vuorena on merinovillainterlock. Reuna on kantattu trikoolla. Hopeista pitsinauhaa sain kaveriltani, joka oli sitä hamstrannut Norjasta. 

Ja tällaisen pipon sain Anninalta. Siinä on fleecevuori ja se on päähäni juuri sopiva. Pidän myös paljon pipon väristä.

Perjantai-illan huumaa - Friday Night Fever

Olen mukana Facebookin ompeluryhmässä jossa perjantai-iltaisin klo 21-23 on aina kahden tunnin ompeluhaaste (sen aikana pitäisi leikata kankaat ja ommella asia). Tällä viikolla piti ilmoittaa osallistumisestaan tietämättä mistä on kyse. Etsittiin siis yllytyshulluja. Keskiviikkoiltana sitten sähköpostiin tupsahti naamari jonka kaveriksi piti tehdä vaate tänään perjantaina.

I'm part of a sewing group on Facebook and on Friday nights between nine and eleven we have these challenges where you have two hours to cut and sew an article. This week we had to sign up without knowing what the theme was and on Wednesday night my email pinged to signify the arrival of a mask I had to print out and make something to go with it. 

I should point out that these photos were taken after a long week at work and a night spent in school studying software testing. 

Huppari on Noshin luomupuuvillavelouria ja Noshin resoria, hupun vuorena on Lillestoffen trikoota josta myös nyörit on punottu (ne tosin tein jo aiemmin päivällä koska aika ei olisi niihin riittänyt). Shortsit olen tehnyt kesällä käytettäväksi mekon alla ja sukkikset on Pariisista (niissä on metallitähtiä).

The hoodie fabrics are by Nosh (velour and ribbing) and Lillestoff (hood lining). I made the shorts last summer to be worn under summer dresses and the tights are from a store in Paris (they've got little metal stars on them). 

I think it's time for me to go to bed.

Pieniä ompeluksia - Sew Small

Ompelen aika paljon myös lapsille. Lähinnä kuitenkin vain veljenpojilleni (kuvien joukossa on kyllä myös parille muulle pikkupojalle synttärilahjat). Tässä on muutamia tältä syksyltä ja viime kesältä. Kaikkien paitojen kaavat ovat Ottobrestä, pipo on Miisamamman kaavalla ja lippalakki on Heidi & Finnin Downtown Hat. Kankaat on vähän sieltä sun täältä. Osassa kuvista kuvanlaatu suorastaan huimaa päätä.

I sew quite a lot for kids. Though mostly for my nephews (there are a some of birthday presents for a couple of other little boys among the pictures as well).  The pictures show some of the things I've made during the past few months. All the shirt patterns are from Ottobre, the winter hat pattern is by Miisamamma and the cap is Downtown Hat by Heidi & Finn. The fabrics are from lots of different places. I apologise for the bad picture quality.

Tässä pipossa on ensimmäinen oikea applikointini. Sen se on näköinenkin.

Tahatonta retroilua - Accidentally Retro

Pääsin pitkästä aikaa päivittämään blogia. Olen ommellut aika paljonkin (ottaen huomioon, että ompelukoneeni oli huollossa kuukauden ja kituutin äitin koneella jonka kansa en niin hyvin tule toimeen) mutta kunnollisten kuvien puutteessa olen jättänyt ne blogaamatta. Tänään kuitenkin hommat meni putkeen ja ulkona paistaa aurinko. 

Ostin joku aika sitten Noshilta sahramin väristä puuvillavelouria ajatuksena tehdä siitä kotihousut. Väri oli kuitenkin livenä niin ihana, että ei sitä voinut tuhlata kotihousuihin. Päätin sitten ommella siitä pitkään suunnittelemani hupputunikan. Siitä vain tuli ihan vahingossa melko retrohenkinen :D

I've been doing quite a bit of sewing lately even though my sewing machine has been out of commission for a month but I haven't been able to take any proper photos of them so I haven't posted anything here on my blog. Today the planets aligned (or at least the clouds disappeared) and the sun came out. 

I bought some cotton velour from Nosh a while ago with the intention of making myself pants to wear at home. But when I got the fabric, the colour was so lovely I couldn't bare to waste it on something like sweats. I had been planning to make a dress like this for a while and the velour seemed like the perfect thing to do with it. The end result is quite retro.

Kankaat on Noshilta ja kaava on itse muokattu Onion 2035 ja Linnelin Make It Workin pohjalta.

Sain myös uudet ompelumerkkini jotka tilasin muutama viikko sitten SoMinelta. Voin suositella lämpimästi. Toisella puolella merkkiä lukee Handmade ja värinä on lempivärini violetti.

I got my new labels from SoMine and this is the first thing I made with one of them. I think they're great. It has Handmade written on the other side and the colour is my favourite colour, purple. 

Lopuksi vielä toivoisin lukijoilta kommenttia siitä, miten kahden kielen käyttö vaikuttaa blogini lukemiseen. Olisiko parempi jos kirjottaisin kaikki ensin suomeksi ja sitten englanniksi vai onko näin hyvä kun kirjoitan sekaisin sopiviin kohtiin?

Sokerisia kallosia - Sugary skulls

Minä en ole oikeastaan koskaan pitäny pääkalloista vaatteissa. Muiden päällä ihan kiva mutta ei ikinä itselle. Kunnes sitten näin Sokerikallot. Tiistaina hain postista Käpysen paketin postista ja sain kallot käsiini (kahdessa värissä, toista näette ehkä sitten myöhemmin). Halusin koko viikon päästä niitä ompelemaan, mutta ensin piti tehdä musta mekko lauantain hautajaisiin (äärettömän vaikea kuvattava minun taidoilla joten ei taida täällä sitä näkyä). Tänään sitten vihdoin oli aikaa. Olin ajatellut ommella myös pari t-paitaa mutta teknisistä ongelmista johtuen (oma ompelukone on huollossa ja me ei äitin koneen kanssa aina tulla toimeen) sokerikallohupparin tekoon meni koko päivä (tai no, kävinhän kyllä uimassa päivällä).  Niin ja opettelinhan myös Gimpin käytön kun kuvissa olisi muuten ollut melkosen kaamea tausta. 

Kangas on siis Käpysen Sokerikallot joustocollegea ja kuosin on suunnitellut Leena Renko. Resorit on Eurokankaasta samoin kuin hupun vuoren musta trikoo. Joustocollege on kyllä aivan mahtava materiaali. Kaava on sekoitus Joka tyypin kaavakirjaa, Onion 2035:sta ja Linnelin Make It Workia joka muokattu omien mittojen mukaan. Hupparin pituuden määräsi kesällä Tallinnasta (Karnaluks on ehkä aika lähellä maanpäällistä taivasta) ostettu 75cm vetoketju ja pituudesta tuli kyllä aika lähelle täydellinen. 

I've been wanting to sew something fun all week but instead had to make a black dress for a funeral for Saturday (I doubt you'll ever see it here since my photography skills aren't good enough to get a picture that shows something other than a black splotch). Today I finally had time and I thought I'd sew a couple of t-shirts on top of this hoodie but I faced a few technical difficulties (my own sewing machine is being repaired and I don't always get along with my mother's machine) so it took all day to finish this. I also had to learn how to use Gimp because otherwise the background would've looked kind of bad.

I've never liked skulls until I saw this pattern designed by Leena Renko and sold by Käpynen and I just had to have it. It is called Sokerikallot or Sugar Skulls. The material is stretch or summer sweat which is an ingenious material. It's a bit thicker than jersey but stretchy unlike regular cotton sweat fabric. I have this in two colours and maybe you'll get to see the other one later. The pattern is mixture of several patterns (Joka tyypin kaavakirja, Onion 2035 and Linnel's Make It Work) made to fit my measurements. The length was determined by a 75cm zipper I bought in Tallinn (Karnaluks is an awesome store for anyone interested in sewing) this summer and it turned out to be perfect for me.

Kiukkupylly - Crankypants

Muutama viikko sitten sain vihdoin kesäkuussa tilaamani Kiukkupyllyt -kankaan. Kankaan on suunnitellut Leena Renko ja sitä myytiin ainoastaan erään ompeluryhmän kautta. Kankaasta tuli itselleni paita ja pipo jotka voin laittaa päälleni niinä aamuina kun eniten ketuttaa kaikki. Tosin paidasta tuli niin kiva, että olen käyttänyt sitä sellaisinakin päivinä kun kaikki on ollut hyvin.

Kuvat on otettu tämän päiväisellä tyttojen laavuretkellä. Eli kun käytiin aamupäivällä vesijuoksemassa, kaveri keksi, että lähdetään paistamaan makkaraa ja vaahtokarkkeja kun on niin hyvä ilma. 

Paidan kaava on muokattu Jokatyypin kaavakirjan t-paidan kaavasta. Kangas itsessään oli kovin ihanaa mutta halusin siihen jonkin jujun. Jujuksi muodostui sitten tuo pääntie. Meinasin aluksi laittaa mustat resoorit mutta onneksi valitsin oranssit. Ne sopivat kankaaseen todella hyvin ja piristävät paitaa mukavasti.

I bough this fabric, Crankypants, in June but didn't get it until a few weeks ago. It's designed by Leena Renko (you can see her other designs in her blog and in a bunch of Finnish fabric stores) and it was sold only in a sewing group on Facebook. I turned my piece into a shirt and a hat to be worn on mornings when I feel cranky. But I liked the end result so much that I've worn it on good mornings as well. 

These pictures were taken on the outing I went on today with a couple of friends. We went aqua jogging this morning and one of them thought it'd be a good idea to spend the afternoon roasting sausages and marshmallows since it was such a nice day.

The pattern for the shirt is from a brilliant book called Joka tyypin kaavakirja which has basic patterns for things like t-shirts, hoodies and pants and instructions on how to make them fit you. I loved (and still do) the fabric but I wanted some thing special. The neck line is that something special. At first I thought I wanted to use black ribbing but I'm very glad I went with the orange. It makes the whole shirt look nice and bright.

Lauantain ompeluksia - Saturday sewings

Olen mukana yhdessä Facebookin ompeluryhmässä jossa on silloin tällöin erinäisiä haasteita. Tällä viikolla yksi tuommoinen haaste tuli kotiin kirjekuoressa kaava-arkin muodossa. Arkilla oli kaava tyköistuvaan peruspaitaan eri hihavariaatioineen, helmoineen ja huppuineen. Siitä sitten piti itselle muokata sopiva vaate. Ensimmäinen yritys oli hihaton toppi joka jäi kesken framilonvajeen vuoksi. Tänään sitten päätin muokata kaavan juuri omaksi ja tehdä jotain.

Tämä tunika on tuloksena.

Kaava on Linnel Handmaden ja se on saatavilla verkkokaupassa. Kangas on Paapiin Siiri & Myyry jerseytä. Suosittelen molempia lämpimästi. Tästä tuli kertaheitolla yksi lempipaidoista (joista muista yritän bloggailla sitten myöhemmin).

I'm a member in sewing group on Facebook that hosts all sorts of challenges. This week's challenge arrived home in an envelope filled with a pattern for a basic form-fitting t-shirt with different sleeve and hem variations and a hood. My first attempt at the pattern was a sleeveless top but my insufficient stash of sewing supplies made it impossible for me to finish last night during the time period set in the challenge. So today, I decided to grab the proverbial bull by the horns and make it work! The result can be seen above. The pattern is from Linnel Handmade and the fabric is from Paapii. I recommend everyone to visit both. This is now one of my favourite shirts (I will try to blog about the others later).

Aloitushöpinöitä - To Start Things Off

Aivan ensimmäiseksi mainittakoon, että tämä ei ole ensimmäinen blogini. Aikaisempi unohtui kolmen tekstin jälkeen. Jää nähtäväksi kuinka tämän käy. Harrastan ompelemista. Joidenkin mielestä olen seonnut. Ehkä. Mutta ainakin minulla on hauskaa. Koska englanniksi kirjoittaminen on minulle kovin luontevaa (jollain kangasostokset täytyy rahoittaa, itse teen sen opettamalla englantia), kirjoitan blogiini myös englanniksi

First off, this is not my first blog and this is very likely to meet same fate as my previous one and become forgotten after three posts.  My hobby is sewing. Some people think I've gone off my rocker. I have been quite prolific for the past summer so maybe I have. I fund my sewing habit (which leads to a fabric buying habit) by teaching English. I feel much more comfortable writing in English so that will most likely be the main language of this blog.

I started sewing when I was eight years old and I have loved it ever since. My mother has always sewed so I've grown up with a sewing machine in the house. For the past few years, I've taken out my machine for a few special project every couple of months or so. Things changed when moving gave me a proper sewing space where I could leave my machine out instead of packing it away once I was done. Then summer came and I had all this free time on my hands and I chose to spend it on sewing. A week into my summer holiday, I bought an overlocker and I haven't looked back. I even started work again a couple of weeks ago and though I have slowed down a bit (and knitted a bit too), I still somehow find myself sitting in front of my sewing machines.

I will start posting about the things I've made once I feel like it. Until then, sew on!
